Have you got that pesty writer's block again? These writing prompts should help inspire you! Try one of these prompts that you normally would not write about, but add your own style to it! Doing that will keep things fresh and exciting!
1. Your brother-in-law is arriving home from Iraq this afternoon. You stand there with your husband's (or wife's) family, seeing all the troops find their loved-ones. Finally, your brother-in-law finds your group, but you can't help but notice one troop that doesn't have a family to come home to. What do you do?
2. You're sitting in your living room watching the news. The news anchor is describing a serial killer who knocks three times on the front door, then attempts to break in through the back while the homeowner is distracted. Suddenly, you hear three knocks on your door... What do you do? Maybe it's just a neighbor? Your wife has too many groceries in her hands to open the door? How would you handle this scenario? Build up the suspense.
3. It's 8 o' clock at night, and you're sauntering through the park after a wonderful dinner-date. This is your fourth time going out together, and there's really something in this person that you admire. However, (s)he stops walking and quietly tells you there's something important you should know. What is it? Is it good or bad? Work on keeping the scene romantic.
4. Write about your apprenticeship to a 19th-century artist. Was he an ordinary person, or maybe it was his insanity that made his art so interesting? Is your relationship with the artist strong, or is he far-off and distant? Also, is he famous? Perhaps he works for the king or queen, and you get a free ride to the castle to deliver a new painting? See what you can come up with! Be sure to set the scene and describe what it all looks like.
5. Describe what your house would look like if you won a lottery of $200-million. Also, what kind of things would you put in the house? An aquarium room? Recording studio? Get creative, you have all of that money to yourself!
